Food Bank Members share their Stories

Mississauga, ON – May 1, 2017 – Eden Food for Change is holding its annual Hunger Awareness Breakfast in Meadowvale this year to provide local business and community leaders the opportunity to hear directly from Food Bank Members.

Pat Saito, Mississauga Ward 9 Councillor, hosts this year’s event at the new Meadowvale Community Centre.  The event will feature Food Bank Members who will share about their journey with Eden Food for Change and the impact the organization had on their lives.

The event kicks off the organization’s annual Hunger Awareness Campaign that invites local business and organizations to raise money and fresh food to support people living in poverty here in western Mississauga.  Mayor Bonnie Crombie will be sharing how she will be supporting the campaign with a special announcement.

This year’s breakfast is sponsored by the Meadowvale Tim Hortons and the Learning Kitchen of Eden will be preparing food provided by the Real Canadian Superstore at Winston Churchill and Argentia.

Eden Food for Change has been serving Mississauga for more than 25 years. The organization provides people with emergency food support through its two Food Bank locations, as well as the ability to put healthy food on their own tables with its Learning Kitchen.

Council Committed to Improving School Bus Safety: Mayor Crombie

Mississauga Council is pressing ahead with the use of technology that will help keep students, citizens, neighbourhoods and our streets safer, Mayor Bonnie Crombie said today.

Mayor Crombie made the comments following last week’s General Committee, where Council passed a motion in support of Bill 94, Highway Traffic Amendment Act (School Bus Camera Systems), 2017  after receiving a deputation from Student Transportation of Peel Region (STOPR). STOPR plans and implements home-to-school transportation for approximately 65,000 students travelling to 400 school sites. Today, Council passed the resolution. Real Impact happens on Giving Tuesday

How to Support our Mississauga Libraries on #GivingTuesday

“For over 25 years the Friends have been funding school trips to the library, author visits, and library renovations,” says FOL President Michael Jones.  “For the thousands of children we help, it is important for residents to help the Friends, support our libraries, and donate today.”

MISSISSAUGA – Not new to Black Friday deals or Cyber Monday sales, Mississauga will be celebrating its second #GivingTuesday on November 29, 2016.  The Friends of the Mississauga Library System (FOL) is one of registered charity groups actively campaigning on #GivingTuesday.  The Friends will be reminding residents about the importance of literacy and supporting our libraries.
