TORONTO, April 1, 2010 /CNW/ - Starting Friday, May 21 and just in time for the Victoria Day long weekend, GO will once again offer seasonal Niagara Falls weekend train service this summer. With approximately 50,000 passengers enjoying the service last summer, it was an easy decision for GO to make to run this weekend excursion service again.

GO listened to its passengers and is making an improvement to the schedule this year by offering a Friday night train trip to help travellers start their weekends. With many weekend trips to pick from, customers will be able to enjoy the scenic route to Niagara with stops in Toronto, Port Credit, Oakville, Burlington, St. Catharines, and Niagara Falls.

This GO service will provide an alternative to driving to either the popular Niagara Falls region or to Toronto. Come enjoy the many exciting attractions that the Niagara region has to offer including wineries, restaurants, the Falls, casinos, and much more.

Specific information about the Niagara Falls weekend GO Train service, including schedules and fares will be available closer to the start of service in the spring. Go to gotransit.com/zip for more information.

TORONTO, Feb. 19, 2010 - At its February 19 meeting, the Metrolinx Board of Directors approved a fare increase and a more equal discount structure that will enable GO Transit to continue offering the best possible service and to meet the needs of its growing ridership.

The changes that will take effect on March 20 include two primary components:

  • a flat-rate increase of $0.25 that will apply to every adult single-ride ticket, regardless of trip origin and destination, and
  • a change to the discount structure for multiple ride tickets and passes so that these discounts will be equal across GO Transit fare zones. All 10-ride tickets offer a 7.5% discount over 10 single-ride tickets and monthly passes offer a 17.5% discount over 40 single-ride tickets.

"A fare increase this year will help to ensure that GO Transit can continue to offer high quality services to its riders in a fiscally responsible fashion," said Metrolinx Chairman Rob MacIsaac.

More information about current and new fares for specific trips and ticket types is available at gotransit.com.

This fare increase is in line with GO Transit fare increases from previous years, and with increases implemented by other transit systems.

TORONTO, Dec. 18, 2008 - A winter storm is expected to severely impact Toronto, as well as the communities along Lake Ontario, on Friday. In the event of a major storm, GO Transit may have to adjust some afternoon train and bus trips on the Lakeshore East and West lines tomorrow. These lines are GO's busiest and would be most affected by severe weather.

Adjusting service is something GO considers when harsh weather hits. This is part of GO's overall winter planning and aims to limit the number of trains crossing over onto other tracks, reducing the likelihood of switch problems, as well as snow and ice buildup.

Customers are asked to monitor GO's website (gotransit.com), as well as news media for updates on the weather and GO service.

Click here to check the departure board at Union Station via the GO Transit Web site.

GO's goal in severe weather conditions is to provide the best service possible, while maintaining safe, reliable service. GO reminds passengers to always have travel contingency plans in place, just in case. These include:

  • Catch an earlier train
  • Have a backup child care or pet care option
  • Keep important phone numbers with you, such as GO info, taxi numbers, and personal contacts
  • Find two or three people who live or work near you and arrange a carpool or taxi group as backup

For more information on GO services, the public can call 416.869.3200, 1.888.GET ON GO (438.6646), 1.800.387.3652 TTY, or monitor gotransit.com.
